TU Dresden — Radiation Efficiency Measurement

Technische Universität Dresden, Energy Efficiency Dept. · DIN EN IEC 60675-3 · October 2022

TU Dresden tested the SunWave Ceramica to DIN EN IEC 60675-3 — the European standard that precisely measures what proportion of electrical energy input is converted to infrared radiation vs. convective heat. Radiation efficiency was confirmed to specification. At 67°C operating temperature, Wien's displacement law places peak IR emission at 8.52 µm — squarely in the long-wave infrared band (8–14 µm) that the human body absorbs most efficiently. Read our full breakdown of the TU Dresden test results.

Fraunhofer WKI — Indoor Air Quality

Fraunhofer Institute for Wood Research Wilhelm-Klauditz-Institut · Braunschweig, Germany

Fraunhofer WKI is Europe's leading institute for indoor air quality testing. The SunWave Ceramica was tested at operating temperature for volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions. Total VOC emissions measured just 0.043 mg/m³ — far below regulatory limits, with no carcinogenic compounds detected, including formaldehyde, benzene, and toluene. Gas boilers emit NO₂ and CO. Conventional heating elements can off-gas from coatings and plastics. See how this compares to other panel materials in our ceramic vs. aluminium infrared panel comparison.

Labor S.A. — Electrical Safety Certification

Labor S.A. · Greece · Report 2316.001.3.01 · December 23, 2024 · EN 60335-2-30

Labor S.A. conducted a comprehensive electrical safety test to EN 60335-2-30 — the international standard for fixed electric space heaters. Every clause was individually tested and passed. The panel is certified Class II (double-insulated, no earth connection required) at IP20. Key safety margins: surface temperature rise of 71.2 K against a standard limit of 80 K; leakage current of just 0.1 mA against a limit of 0.25 mA.

Product Questions

One 650 W SunWave Ceramica panel is designed to heat 12–15 m² effectively. For a 50 m² apartment in good condition, four panels are typically sufficient — one per room or zone. For higher ceilings (above 2.8 m) or older buildings with average insulation, plan closer to one panel per 12 m². Get in touch and we'll help you work out the right number of panels for your space.

Yes — ceiling mounting is often the most effective position, directing infrared radiation downward onto the occupancy zone. Maintain at least 50 mm clearance from the ceiling surface for airflow around the back of the panel. Standard ceiling mounting hardware is included. For high ceilings (above 3 m), wall mounting at mid-height may be preferable to keep radiation intensity focused on the living zone.

Plug-in installation (Schuko plug Type F — use standard Schuko socket or adapter) can be done without an electrician: mount the bracket, hang the panel, plug in. The cable exits 10 mm from the wall for a clean, minimal look. For hardwired installation (fully recessed cable, no visible plug), a certified Swiss electrician is required per NIN 2020 regulations. Most installers complete hardwired installations in under two hours per panel. We can refer you to certified installers in your canton — contact us.

Yes — this is one of the most effective pairings in Swiss residential energy. A SunWave Ceramica panel draws 650 W; a standard 400 W rooftop solar panel produces that energy in under 2 hours of good sun. Because infrared heating stores heat in thermal mass (walls, floor, furniture), you can run panels during peak solar generation and coast on stored warmth for hours afterward — dramatically reducing your grid draw. Many Swiss solar installers now package SunWave panels with their PV installs. See our solar installer page for full technical details.

Any 230 V thermostat rated for resistive loads (most are) will work. We recommend a smart WiFi thermostat that allows scheduling — heating before you arrive, reducing during the night, and optimising for solar production windows. We offer a compatible smart thermostat as an add-on in the order form above. Third-party options from Nest, Heatmiser, or Swiss-made thermostats all work without any modification.

The SunWave Ceramica surface reaches approximately 67°C at typical operating temperature (max 90°C per Labor S.A. certification). This is above the safe-to-touch threshold. The panel should be mounted on the wall or ceiling at a height that prevents direct contact — not placed as a freestanding unit. With standard wall or ceiling mounting at or above 1.8 m, there is no risk of contact with the hot surface. The panel emits no sparks, no open flame, and has no moving parts.
